GLSEN 2013 National School Climate SurveyGLSEN
GLSEN’s National School Climate Survey began in 1999 as the first survey of its kind and remains the only national, biennial survey to document the school experiences of LGBT youth.
The 2013 National School Climate Survey: The Experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Youth in Our Nation’s Schools is the most recent version of the survey, and it comes with an Executive Summary and Infographic that details key figures and facts relating to the experience of LGBT youth in K-12 education.
Over 7,800 LGBT middle and high school students completed this survey to give voice to the scope and impact of anti-LGBT bias and violence in our schools, as well as the availability of LGBT-related school resources and supports. In 2013, 85% of LGBT students reported that they were verbally harassed in the past year. We have a lot of work to do to ensure that all schools are safe and affirming for all students!
